Nancee Marie

The spelling of my name is a product of June Grace, my very Irish aunt. There was a hat shop in Madison with the name Nancee. Maybe that's where she got the idea.

I have been cutting paper and making things since I was a child when my parents bought a set of encyclopedias from a traveling salesman. It included two separate volumes of books; one of which I wore out, "Fun with Paper" --bound in brittle brown quasi paper/leather; and another set of books, of which my favorite was, "Best Loved Poems"  bound in rich red cloth. The first poem I ever loved was Wyken, Blyken, and Nod by Eugene Field.

I have a B.A. in English, with an emphasis in Creative Writing; and a minor in French  from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I like to think my life is an example of the Wisconsin Idea-- from University to finding my role in the local Book Arts world.

As a descendant of the Irish, Dempsey clan, my cousins & I march in Madison’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
